Abstract

This research examines whether there is a link between being explicit CSR and an overall commitment of SMEs toward their stakeholders. A survey of 106 Tunisian SMEs was conducted to analyze the extent and type of CSR practices implemented by SMEs. Based on both hierarchical and non-hierarchical cluster methods, four groups of homogeneous CSR commitment were identified. The results of this research reveal that SMEs that have implemented a certification related to CSR conduct responsible activities to a considerably larger extent compared to those in which such a system is not implemented. However, this research does not provide evidence that environmental and social SMEs have strong association with performing overall CSR practice toward their stakeholders.
