Abstract

This essay problematizes the study of societal collapse in entrepreneurship. It draws on the notion of complex systems to shed light on the ruptures likely to cause it. While these ruptures are already underway, a review of the literature shows that research in entrepreneurship neglects the issues of
societal collapse. In line with critical studies in management, this article opens up avenues of research to address this issue: 1) study imaginaries of societal collapse in relation to entrepreneurship, 2) study entrepreneurs’ preparation for societal collapse, and 3) study entrepreneurship in a collapsed world.
More generally, the article contributes to critical entrepreneurship studies by outlining alternative paths to entrepreneurial capitalism.
