Abstract

The concept of sustainable work aims to transform paid employment in accordance with the three pillars of sustainable development. Although some policies implemented in its name support, to varying degress, environmental law, labor law, or public health protection, none have the overall ambition to promote work that is both economically beneficial and respectful of humans and the environment.
The concept of sustainable work is therefore to be found in the alliance of these policies, each contributing in its own way to a certain understanding of sustainable work. In this context, the integration of environmental standards within the company reinforces its obligation to consider environmental factors, while decent work improves the qualitative aspect of employment. Working in concert, these two policies, both focused on the employing structure, together align with what is expected of sustainable work.
