Abstract

Health-oriented sport, which is a well-known concept in social sciences, finally found some regulatory resonance through recent reforms. As an alternative model to traditional techniques of clinical medicine, health-oriented sport promotes suitable physical exercise. As a factor in social integration, it reaches out to a large public, in order to complement the medical social field whose view of healthcare is limited solely to medical care. Nevertheless, the upsurge of sport as a socialization norm conditions individuals to cultivate a self-esteem based on a consumerist model. It is thus important to support the practice of sport as a way to pursue a form of well-being free from power relationships.
