About this journal

History

The Revue de Gestion des Ressources Humaines (RGRH), which can be translated as the Journal of Human Resource Management, is published by Editions Eska. The first issue was published in 1991 by Editions Eska, with Jacques Rojot and the publisher as founders. The journal appeared at a time when Human Resource Management was developing as an academic field in its own right. The Association Francophone de Gestion des Ressources Humaines (French-Speaking Human Resource Management Association) had been founded the previous year, in 1989, by Jacques Igalens, and until then there had been no journal specializing in Human Resource Management for French speakers. Although independent, the RGRH (the journal) and the AGRH (the academic association) have maintained close relations for over 30 years in order to defend academic research in Human Resource Management, thanks in particular to the steadfast commitment of AGRH presidents (Florence Noguéra, Charles-Henri Besseyre des Horts, Jean-Michel Plane, Aline Scouarnec, Jean-Marie Peretti, Maurice Thevenet, Marc Bonnet, Bruno Sire, Georges Trépo, Pierre Louart) who, over the years, have upheld the partnership between RGRH and AGRH, enabling participants in AGRH’s annual congress to benefit from a subscription to RGRH.

Launching such a journal in the 1990s was risky at the time, yet despite a difficult start, the gamble paid off. Thanks to the impetus of Jacques Rojot, Frank Bournois, Jacques Igalens , but also to the support of the editorial and reading committee members, as well as the entire HRM scientific community, the journal, published by Eska Publishing, successfully established itself in the academic landscape. In 2000, Alice Le Flanchec became Deputy Editor-in-Chief of RGRH, working alongside Jacques Rojot, before taking over as Editor-in-Chief of RGRH between 2011 and 2020, where she was joined by Astrid Mullenbach as Deputy Editor-in-Chief. It was during this period that RGRH’s reputation steadily grew to reach the very prestigious  ranking ( Rang 2 ) in France’s FNEGE (National Foundation for Business Management Education) rankings. In 2020, Jean Michel Plane took over as Editor-in-Chief of RGRH. He was joined by Jocelyn Husser and Natacha Pijoan as Deputy Editors-in-Chief in 2024.

Objectives of the journal

The aim of the Revue de Gestion des Ressources Humaines (RGRH) is to raise awareness of scientific research in Human Resource Management by promoting high-level, diverse academic research in which all methodological and epistemological approaches can find their place, provided they advance knowledge in the field. Methodological openness has been part of the journal’s DNA since its inception, giving visibility to a wide range of researchers, PhD students and/or HRM practitioners.
