Since the 1980s, bioethics has become an area of interest for decision-makers and the international community has adopted, over the past 30 years, certain universal standards. UNESCO has largely contributed to this work, but there is still a significant gap between the proclamation of universal principles and the reality of the world. Now is the time to ask the following questions: Was the initiative to develop universal standards useful or is it just illusory? And how does international law participate in this reflection on the universality of the principles of bioethics?
