Abstract

The growing desire to control death has prompted medical and legal developments aimed at improving conditions at the end of life. This societal evolution has resulted in the development of palliative care and the expression of demands for active assistance in dying. The current debates on changes to the law provide an opportunity to highlight some of the ethical and normative issues involved in the approaches and discourses that are tending to impose a new model of dying well.
