We analyze the characteristics of women entrepreneurs who identified an opportunity during the Covid-19 health crisis in La Réunion. A survey of 463 craftswomen and semi-structured interviews reveal that the absence of family support, a preference for collective and hybrid support, and a degree favor the seizure of opportunities. However, the probability of discovering an
opportunity in times of crisis is lower for those who are older or in the trade sector. This research highlights the importance of targeted support to build the capacity of women entrepreneurs in an island economy, thus contributing to regional development strategies.
